A Spleen Workout

A Spleen Workout (Including Stomach)

The spleen is ruled by the Earth element. It is responsible for nourishing the entire body, with fluids and energy. It is responsible for maintaining the other organs in the right place and making sure that the physical body has enough muscle to sustain daily activities. Internally, the spleen is the device which combines the energy resulting from breathing (lungs) with the energy produced from food (digestion).

Balancing Spleen Energy – ‘Qilin Palm’

This palm builds the strength of the spleen system. Imagine you are holding up a wide object above you (for example, a chair). Keep your palms level with your ears, facing above. The arms are relaxed, but firmly maintaining the posture (see image below).

Symptoms: stomach pain, acid reflux, halitosis, poor absorption function.

Direction: An equal number of steps in each direction (clockwise and anti-clockwise).

Breathing: Inhale when moving anti-clockwise. Exhale when moving clockwise.

Recommended Number of Steps: A minimum of 100 in each direction (with a total of 200 steps)

Excessive Spleen Energy – ‘Qilin Palm’

Symptoms: obesity, sweating, swollen legs (caused by water retention) and feeling persistently worried. In addition, stomach tumors, polyps, poor digestion, abdominal pain and other symptoms can be treated by practicing this palm.

Both palms are held next to the hips, facing down, just as you would support your body by using your hands on a table in front of you. The arms are relaxed but held firm.

Direction: Clockwise.

Breathing: Exhale with every step.

Recommended Number of Steps: A minimum of 100.

Deficient Spleen Energy – ‘Qilin Palm’

Symptoms: fatigue, atrophied muscles, pale tongue with white coating (as observed early in the morning when waking up), loose bowel movements and dehydration. It is specially used to invigorate the spleen and stomach. Deficiency of the spleen meridian is manifested as long-term loose stools, the inability to eat and malnutrition; stomach deficiency manifests in stomach pain, the feeling of hot and cold, insufficient gastric motility, poor digestion and belching. Many diseases such as gastric ulcer, gastric perforation, gastric atrophy, etc., can be treated by practicing this palm.

Practice this palm to energize the spleen system and increase the flow of energy by inhaling fresh air. Place your arms above your head, palms facing up (see image below).

Direction: Anti-Clockwise.

Breathing: Inhale with every step.

Recommended Number of Steps: A minimum of 100.
